Week of December 14 - 18

Theme: Christmas

Activities for the week:
  • We will learn the letter G in handwriting.
  • Decorate for Christmas in Dramatic Play.
  • Explore plastic ornaments in snow (rice) in the Sensory Table.
  • Make pretty bow patterns in Math.
  • Play with a train set in Blocks.
  • Make a class gingerbread house.
  • Go on a Christmas Candy Hunt.
  • Read the story of the Little Gingerbread Boy and have a special snack.
  • Light the 3rd Advent Candle and discover that we can always give Jesus the present, or gift of our love. Celebrate Jesus' Birthday!

Week of December 7 - 11

Theme: Advent/Christmas

Activities for the week:
  • Light the 2nd candle on our Advent wreath and read the story of Jesus' birth in Religion.
  • Make snowmen, trees and snowflakes for our classroom winter scene in Art.
  • Experiment with a gyroscope in Science.
  • Pretend to make toys in Santa's workshop in Blocks.
  • Learn to recognize and write the number 4 in Math.
  • Pretend to decorate Christmas cookies, send Christmas cards and decorate a tree in Dramatic Play.
  • Learn the letter Q in handwriting.
  • Search for and sort items of red and green hidden in green sand in the Sensory Table.
  • Listen to the story "Polar Express" during Group Time.
  • Go to the computer lab and make Christmas pictures with the 6th graders.

Other Information:

Thank you to Logan for the stickers and treasure chest items and to Erica for the clorox wipes.

Please make sure to send warm clothing for your child (coats, hats, mittens) because we will go to the playground everyday unless the temperature is below freezing. Also, remember to write your child's name in coats, jackets, etc. so we can make sure that everything gets home with the right child.

Our class Christmas party will be held on Friday, December 18th at 1:00pm. All parents are invited to attend.

Theme: Bears

Activities for the week:
  • Make patchwork bears in Art.
  • Have a teddy bear picnic in Dramatic Play.
  • Learn about hibernation and what bears eat in Science. We will eat bear food (berries, nuts and fish) at snack and let our bears hibernate in the pretend cave at nap.
  • In Math we will make patterns with gummy bears.
  • Play with plastic bears, stacking cups and scoops in the Sensory Table.
  • Listen to the story of the Three Bears from our Reading program.
  • Sort, compare and dance with our bears during Group Time.
  • Learn the letter O in handwriting.
  • We will light the first candle on our Advent wreath and learn about Baptism in Religion.

Other Information:

Thursday, Dec. 3rd - bring in donations of coffee and/or laundry detergent to benefit the Ronald McDonald House and earn a free dress.

Activities for the week:
  • We will make paper bag owl puppets in Art.
  • In Science we will make animal feeders by stringing fruit loops and cheerios onto a pipe cleaner.
  • Pretend to camp in the forest, build a camp fire, cook and sleep under the stars in Dramatic Play.
  • In the Sensory table we will explore a miniature forest.
  • We will learn the letter F in Handwriting.
  • In Religion we will read the story "Ming's Furry Puppy" and learn that when we act kind, we are acting like friends of Jesus.

Theme: Autumn Leaves

Activities for the week:
  • We will make fall trees using our handprints and some leaf prints.
  • Make pretty leaf patterns in Math.
  • Learn the letter L in handwriting. We will learn to write it, learn what it sounds like and try to think of words that begin with L.
  • Explore the leaf pile in the Sensory Table.
  • Play in the sandwich shop in Dramatic Play.
  • Read the story of the Good Shepherd in Religion.

Other Information:

The Scholastic Book Fair will be open all week from 7:30am - 3:30pm in the Middle School Library. Check out last week's Wednesday packet for all the exciting book fair events.

Wednesday, Sept. 23rd - 8th grade pizza day - don't forget your money! If you do not want to buy pizza make sure that your child brings their lunch because the cafeteria will not be serving a hot lunch.

Thursday, Sept. 24th - Spirit Dress/Spirit Night - your child may wear a St. Pius t-shirt and jeans/shorts to school. Spirit Night will be held at Broken Arrow Roller Sports from 6-8pm.

  • We will make an apple counting book in Math.
  • In Art we will make stained glass apples using tissue paper squares and contact paper.
  • We will examine, sort and weigh apples in Science.
  • In the Sensory table we will explore textures (oatmeal and dried apples).
  • We will taste some apples and make a class graph to see which is the favorite.
  • We will listen to the story "Little Red Riding Hood" from our Reading program.
  • In Handwriting we will learn about vertical and horizontal lines and trace them.

  • In Art we will make cute corn by dipping our finger into paint to make the kernels.
  • We will make our own butter in Science.
  • In Dramatic Play we will visit the Farmer's Market.
  • We will play with wheat, tractors and farm animals in the Sensory Table.
  • In Handwriting we will continue to practice pencil grip and begin to trace lines that go up, down and all around. We will learn the song "The Ant, the Bug and the Bee".
  • We will listen to the Bible story "Jesus Blesses the Children" in Religion.
  • In Math we will sort and count farm animals.
  • We will take turns milking a cow.

Theme: Shapes and Colors

Activities for the week:

  • In Religion we will read the story "Be My Friend" and learn that Jesus wants us to be friends of his and each other.
  • Make colorful suncatchers in Art using markers, coffee filters and water.
  • Learn the correct pencil grip in Handwriting.
  • Play in the Preschool Paint Store in Dramatic Play.
  • Go on a shape search in the Sensory Table.
  • Sort Fruit Loops in Math and figure out which color has the most and which has the least.
  • Have fun making shaving cream shapes.
  • In Science we will do a color mixing experiment.

Wed., Sept. 2 and Thurs., Sept. 3 - Prevent Blindness will be here to do vision screening for all Preschoolers.

Activities for the week:

  • In Art we will use construction paper, scissors, glue and crayons to make a family tree.
  • We will practice number recognition and counting in Math.
  • Brick blocks will be available in the Block Center.
  • In the Sensory table we will play with sand and sand toys.
  • In Handwriting we will learn about Mat Man.
  • In Science we will pair up with a friend and compare features like hair color, eye color and thumbprints.
  • We will share our family fact sheets with the class and make a class book.
  • In Religion we will learn about Jesus' Special Friends.

Other Information:

Just a reminder that ice cream day is Wednesday (Thursday if your child attends on Tues./Thurs.). Ice cream punch cards are available for $15.00 (20 ice cream purchases).

  • We will also talk about and come up with some class rules.

Other Information:

Monday, August 17th - Back to School Night for parents. Please meet in the church at 6:00pm. I hope you will all be able to come!

Your child may bring a blanket, small pillow and/or a stuffed animal to use at rest time. They can carry it back and forth in their backpack or leave it at school in their cubby.

Theme: Transportation

Activitites for the week:
  • We will learn the letter J.
  • Make airplanes using paper towel rolls in Art.
  • Pretend to be a passenger or airline worker in Dramatic Play.
  • Learn to write the numbers 3 and 4 in Math.
  • Play with small vehicles and a city streets rug in Blocks.
  • Listen to the story The Tug of War from our Reading program.
  • Learn what happens at Mass in Religion.

Friday, Feb. 20th - Michael Amberg from Amazing Athletes will be in the preschool classroom at 3:00pm to talk to parents about his physical fitness program.

Monday, February 23rd and Tuesday, February 24th - Kindergarten testing. There will be no school for Preschool and Kindergarten on these two days. Please look for a letter in your child's backpack regarding your child's testing time.

Activities for the week:

  • We will make self-portraits in Art.
  • Continue playing school in Dramatic Play.
  • Read some books and sing some songs about manners.
  • Learn the letter G.
  • Take turns acting out manners.
  • Continue to talk about being a part of the Catholic Church and Baptism.

Other Information:

Tuesday, February 3rd - class pictures will be taken. Our picture is scheduled for 11:30am. Any MWF children who want to be included in the picture can meet us in the gym at 11:30am. Order forms were sent home in your child's folder.

  • Learn about belonging to a special family, the Catholic Church, in Religion.

Tuesday, January 27th - Spirit Dress, Talent Show 8:30 - 10:30, Jupiter Jump 11:30-12:15

Wednesday, January 28th - Red, White and Blue or Spirit Dress

Thursday, January 28th - Family Lunch 11:30 - 12:30, Cafeteria will be closed!!

Friday, January 30th - You are welcome to take your child to Mass, but we will not be going as a class. Open House in classrooms 9:45 - 10:15.

Theme: Our Healthy Bodies

Activities for the week:
  • Learn the letters O and Q in handwriting.
  • Make party hats for our 100th day of school celebration in Art.
  • Make bean soup in the Sensory Table.
  • Cut out pictures of healthy and unhealthy foods to glue on posters in Science.
  • Exercise our bodies.
  • Learn that God gave us our feelings in Religion.

Other Information:

Remember to sign up for Kindergarten testing in the school offfice. Testing will take place on Monday, February 23rd and Tuesday, February 24th. There will be no classes for Preschool on these days.

Other Information:

Remember to call the school office at 627-5367 and have your child's name placed on the list for kindergarten next year. Kindergarten testing will be Monday, February 23rd and Tuesday February 24th. There will be no preschool classes on these days.

We are still collecting items and money for the S.O.S. project sponsored by the 5th grade class.

  • Make marble painted planets in Art.
  • Count moon craters in Math.
  • Play with astronauts, rocks and sand (moon dust) in the Sensory Table.
  • Learn the Blue's Clues Planet song.
  • Make moon rocks.
  • Learn that the Bible is a book of stories about God and his people in Religion.
