Theme: Christmas

Activities for the week:
  • Learn the letter S in Handwriting.
  • Make a gift for our parents in Art.
  • Practice number recognition and counting with Christmas stickers in Math.
  • Play with a train set in Blocks.
  • Search for letters in the newspaper for a Language Activity.
  • Decorate a tree for Christmas in Dramatic Play.
  • Explore plastic ornaments and snow in the Sensory Table.
  • Discover that we can always give Jesus the gift of our love in Religion.
  • Play some games, listen to some stories and sing some songs during Group Time.
Other Information:

Friday, Dec. 17th - class Christmas party at 1:00pm in the classroom. All parents are invited to attend!

Theme: Advent/Christmas

Activities for the Week:
  • Learn the letter G in Handwriting.
  • Decorate Christmas trees in Art.
  • Practice number recognition and counting with a Rudolph Roll-N-Stamp game in Math.
  • Play in Santa's workshop in the Block Center.
  • Pretend to decorate cookies and make/send Christmas cards in Dramatic Play.
  • Search for red and green items hidden in green sand in the Sensory Table.
  • Light our Second Advent candle and learn about the birth of Jesus in Religion.
  • Listen to the Legend of the Candy Cane, some Christmas stories and make some Christmas crafts during Group Time.
Other Information:

This year Preschool will not participate in the Christmas program.

Our class Christmas party will be next Friday, Dec. 17th at 1:00pm in the classroom. All parents are welcome to join us if you can!

  • Use Halloween stamps to make pumpkins, bats and spiders, count them and write how many in Math.
  • Have a pretend Halloween party in Dramatic Play.
  • Hunt for Halloween items hidden in shredded black and orange paper in the Sensory Table.
  • Listen to some flannel board stories, play a Trick or Treat game, sing some Halloween songs, and practice tracing curved, straight and zig zagged lines by completing a spider worksheet during Group Time.
  • Make Halloween door hangers in Art.

  • In Art we will decorate manners posters. After they are done we will hang them in our classroom.
  • During group time we will listen to some stories, learn some songs and act out ways to show good manners.
  • Experiment with locks and keys in Science.
  • Play number lotto in Math.
  • Build with brick blocks.
  • Explore the wood pieces that will form our letters in Handwriting.
  • Pretend to work in or visit the Subway Restaurant. Here we can practice good manners.
  • Use our fine motor skills to explore unpopped popcorn in the Sensory Table.
  • Match large foam letters to the letters on our classroom rug as a Language activity.
  • We will listen to Bible stories in Religion.

  • In Art we will make a western scene using markers and stickers.

  • Discover how a various locks work in Science.
  • Review all of the letters in Handwriting.
  • Participate in a cowboy campout in Dramatic Play.
  • Pan for gold in the Sensory Table.
  • During group time we will have some rodeo fun with stick horses.
  • In Religion we will learn about and pray the Rosary.
Other Information:

Wed., May 12th and Thurs., May 13th - Western Wear free dress. Children may wear jeans, hats, boots, etc.

Friday, May 14th - we will eat our lunch outside while we watch the 8th graders perform Shakespeare in the Park. The cafeteria will be closed, so every child needs to bring a lunch. Parents are welcome to join us. We will eat at 10:55 on the SW side of the church. Parents please bring a blanket or chair for you to sit on.

Week of March 29 - April 1

Theme: Easter

Activities for the week:

  • We will learn about the Stations of the Cross, listen to the Bible story "Alleluia! Jesus is Alive!", learn the Jelly Bean Prayer and discover that Easter and springtime bring new life in Religion.
  • Have a pretend Easter celebration in Dramatic Play.
  • Play a game of Easter bingo in Math.
  • Complete a missing letter bunny worksheet, read some stories, play some bean bag games, attend a play, and have an Easter egg hunt during group time this week.
  • Experiment with a raw egg in vinegar in Science. The vinegar will be absorbed through the shell and cause the shell to dissolve. After three days the egg will get bigger and become rubbery.
  • Make paper mache eggs in Art. Fill with grass and candy.
  • Search for plastic eggs hidden in grass in the Sensory Table.
  • Play with Legos in the Block center.

Theme: Zoo Animals

Activities for the week:

  • Make a zoo scene in Art.
  • Play with plastic mice hidden in wheat in the Sensory Table.
  • Thank God for friends we can pray with in Religion.
  • Experiment with a white carnation and colored water in Science.
  • Work at or visit the cafe in Dramatic Play.
  • Read some books and play zoo animal charades during Group Time.

  • Experiment with color mixing in Science.
  • Sort and count the marshmallows from Lucky Charms cereal in Math.
  • Have a pretend St. Patrick's Day party in Dramatic Play.
  • Dig for gold hidden in green sand in the Sensory Table.
  • Play some games and read some books during group time.
  • Begin to understand that they can pray everyday with their families and by themselves in Religion.

Theme: Dinosaurs

Activities for the week:
  • We will learn the letter A in handwriting.
  • Participate in a dinosaur excavation in Science.
  • Read dinosaur stories, play games and learn about volcanoes during group time.
  • In Religion we will learn that when we pray, we are talking to God. We will make our own prayer books.
  • Play in dino land in Dramatic Play.
  • Dig for dinosaurs in the Sensory Table.
  • In the Block center we will play with plastic dinosaurs and wood blocks.
  • Begin to recognize and write the number 9 in Math.
  • Make dinosaur skeleton pictures in Art.

Theme: Olympics

Activities for the week:
  • We will have our own Olympic opening and closing ceremonies. Participate in many different Olympic games during group time.
  • Learn the letter K in handwriting.
  • In Religion we will learn what a missionary is and what they do using a program from the Columban Missions called Vinny's New Day.
  • We will make Olympic flags and torches in Art.
  • Dramatic Play will be the Olympic Ice Arena where we can play ice hockey, figure skate or speed skate.
  • In the Sensory table we will search for gold, silver and bronze in the snow (packing peanuts).
  • Begin to recognize and write the number 8 in Math.

Week of February 16-19

Theme: Five Senses

Activities for the week:
  • We will learn the letter R in handwriting.
  • Discover that Lent is a time to grow in love for God and others. Go to Mass on Ash Wednesday.
  • Make a five senses booklet in Art.
  • Pretend to work in an animal hospital in Dramatic Play.
  • Play with sensory gloves (latex gloves filled with rice, playdough, sand, etc.) in the Sensory table. These are fun to squish.
  • Use our sense of touch to explore feeling boxes in Science.
  • Learn about each of our senses through various group activities. (sight-play I Spy, hearing-listen to a tape of common sounds, taste - taste foods that are sweet, salty and sour, smell - smelling jars filled with various scents)
  • Eat king cake and celebrate Mardi Gras.
  • Learn to recognize and write the number 7 in Math.

Wednesday, Feb. 17th - we will attend Mass with our 6th grade buddies.

Theme: Valentines

Activities for the week:
  • Learn the letter B in handwriting.
  • Have a Valentine party in Dramatic Play.
  • Listen to our hearbeat with a stethoscope in Science.
  • Estimate the number of candy hearts in Math.
  • Decorate sacks for our Valentine party in Art.
  • Search for red items hidden in red crinkle paper in the Sensory Table.
  • In Religion we will discover that when we help others we show love to God.
  • During group time we will play a true or false game, practice following directions by completing a worksheet and play a heart rhyming game.

  • We will discover ways that families show love for one another and thank God for the gift of family in Religion.

  • We will learn how our spine works and all about healthly/unhealthly food in Science.
  • In Art we will use markers, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, stencils to come up with our own unique art project.
  • Explore beans in the Sensory Table.
  • Play with the kitchen and babies in Dramatic Play.
