Theme: Advent/Christmas

Activities for the week:

  • We will learn the letter I in handwriting.
  • Make pretty bow patterns in Math.
  • Pretend to work in Santa's workshop in Blocks.
  • Deck the Halls in Dramatic Play.
  • Play with snow (packing peanuts) and ornaments in the Sensory table.
  • Experiment with magnet rocks in Science.
  • Read "The Elves and the Shoemaker" from our reading program.
  • Light the second Advent candle in Religion.

The children did a great job at Mass last Friday, they even asked when we could go again!

Thursday, November 20th - Bedlam Boxtops Battle - send in your boxtops, vote for your favorite team and wear OU or OSU colors.

Friday, November 21st - Appalachia Mass - we will attend Mass. Your child may bring an unwrapped gift for the St. Vincent Mission in David, KY. There is a list of items needed in the November 5th Wednesday packet.

  • Learn about and prepare to attend our first Mass.
  • Practice number recognition and counting with unifix cubes.
  • Learn about Smokey the Bear.

Theme: Halloween

Activities for the Week:
  • We will make rectangle bats in Art.
  • Have a Halloween party in Dramatic Play.
  • Hunt for bats, spiders and pumpkins in the sensory table.
  • Play with pumpkin playdough and Halloween cookie cutters.
  • Learn the "Looking for Dracula" song.
  • In Religion we will learn that Halloween is a fun make-believe celebration.

Please send in your pizza order forms, they are due back Monday, October 27th.

  • Continue practicing our crayon grip, control and using the helper hand in handwriting by completing the red and green coloring pages in our workbooks.
  • In Art we will be making Halloween collages using paint and cookie cutters.

Theme: Fire Safety

Activities for the week:

  • Pretend to be firefighters in Dramatic Play.
  • Make dalmation headbands in Art.
  • Learn about and make our own smoke detectors in Science.
  • Practice dialing 911, crawling under the smoke, and the Stop, Drop and Roll technique.
  • Complete another page in our Handwriting books to continue practicing the correct crayon grip and learn to control our crayon strokes.
  • Learn about God's gift of Earth and Plants in Religion.

Thank you to all of the parents for coming to Parent/Teacher Conferences, we really enjoyed meeting and talking to you all. Your children are wonderful!

Tuesday, October 7th - picture retakes. If you would like your child's picture retaken, just return your picture packet and we will have your child's picture redone. Remember to wear uniforms.

  • Continue to practice the correct crayon grip by completing the Aim and Scribble pages in our handwriting books.
  • Make pretty leaf patterns in Math.
  • Explore a leaf pile in our Sensory Table.
  • Play in the Preschool Sandwich Shop in Dramatic Play.
  • Make coffee filter leaves to decorate our windows.
  • In Religion we will learn about God's gift of water.

Theme: Fun on the Farm

Activities for the week:
  • Using our hand and foot prints we will make sheep and ducks in Art.
  • In Science we will make our own butter which we will eat on freshly baked bread.
  • We will learn the correct way to hold our crayons and draw Mat Man in handwriting.
  • Our Dramatic Play area will become a Farmer's Market

  • We will learn the Sign of the Cross in Religion.

  • Make Bloomin Apple Trees in Art.

  • We will taste different apples and decide which one we like best.

  • Complete an apple sequencing activity in Science to learn how an apple tree grows.

  • Make shaving cream shapes in Science.

  • In Art we will be making a book about shapes using paint, stencils, glue and scissors.

  • Learn that there are many people who love and care for us in Religion.

  • Continue with our handwriting program - working with wood pieces and learning some new songs.

Other Information:

Tuesday, Sept. 9th - school pictures will be taken. Order forms were sent home with your child on Friday. Children must wear their uniform.

  • Make Blow-a-Bubble art.

Thursday and Friday, Sept. 4 & 5 - Prevent Blindness Vision Screening will be done for all students.

Week of August 25 - 29

Theme: My Family and Friends


Activities for the week:
  • Students will take turns showing and telling about the items they found on the family scavenger hunt.
  • Pretend to camp with friends in Dramatic Play.
  • Make family trees in Art.
  • Graph the number of family members each child has.
  • Learn about friendship and sharing in Religion.

Other information:

We are now offering another option for ice cream purchases. Punch cards can be purchased for your convenience. You may buy 20 ice cream purchases for $15.00, 15 ice cream purchases for $11.25 or 10 ice creams purchases for $7.50. Payment for the punch cards can be made by cash (exact change only) or check (made out to St. Pius X - ice cream). You can also pay weekly with change and one dollar bills as before. The punch cards will be available this week and can be purchased in the classroom or the school office.
